Bronze by Nancy Rieke

The Rieke Bronze High Goalie is an exhibition of equine sports frozen in bronze that was displayed in the polo hall of fame in Palm Springs, Florida. Of the 25 bronzes cast in this series this peice is unique in that its base shows the activity of a polo field at play.

This piece is a recent gift from the estate of Iglehart Award-winner Fred Fortugno.

Working from her studio on Horse Lake, near Osceola, WI, Nancy Rieke creates equestrian and figural forms in the Representational style. Working in paint as well as bronze she strives to capture moments of experience. Her equestrian statues evoke sights and sounds and tactile sensations that transport those who have shared their lives with horses.

Nancy has 6 years of formal Fine Art training at the University of Minnesota, the University of Colorado, and the University of Wisconsin. As well as her formal training she has spent a significant amount of time studying the works of North American and European Master. She has received many awards, including Best of Show at Beverly Hills, CA in 1988 and Best of Show at Pacific Palisades, CA in 1994.

As a child, Nancy learned to sculpt using the red wax which surrounds Gouda cheese to create tiny horses, dogs, cats, and dancers. Today she creates life like sculptures of animals in bronze.

Rieke began sculpting in 1986 and in 1988, won "Best of Show" at the Beverly Hills' Affaire in the Garden with a life size Arabian stallion sculpture.
