This EDMUND FITZGERALD GLASS BELL is a blown glass/ cut-glass bell created by Seth Auger & Carl Miller. 2 artists worked together to create this bell. The blown glass bell is handcrafted by local Rochester, Minnesota glass artist Seth Auger, and the beautiful design was hand cut by local glass artist Carl Miller, from Byron, Minnesota.
INFO: When the Edmund Fitzgerald sank to the bottom of Lake Superior amid a fierce storm, on November 10, 1975 the most gut-wrenching loss was its entire crew - all 29 men aboard who went down with the famed freighter. But the wreck of the 729-foot "laker" was also a $24 million loss of an engineering marvel - a ship considered a Great Lakes workhorse as it racked up seasonal records for its cargo-hauling abilities. The Edmund Fitzgerald was not only an ore-hauling workhorse with nearly 750 round trips to her credit, she was also the largest freighter on The Great Lakes for 13 of her 17 years. Fitzgerald's normal course during her productive life took her between Silver Bay, Minnesota, where she loaded taconite, to steel mills on the lower lakes in the Detroit and Toledo area. The big freighter was just 17 miles from safety when she sank with all 29 men aboard. At the time, nearby ships were reporting waves approaching 25 feet and hurricane-force winds blowing across Lake Superior.
This bell has different designs involving the Edmund Fitzgerald Ship's story. It features the Edmund Fitzgerald Ship, an eagle flying with 29 pearls in it's mouth. The pearls symbolize each of the men's lives that were lost in the shipwreck. Also, shows the rough waters of Lake Superior, Whitefish Bay and Split Rock Lighthouse.
