"I want an observer of "Survival" to reflect on the delicate balance thar exists in nature. The wolf/moose relationship on Isle Royale has been well documented over the years, but in this sculpture I wanted to reveal more than wolves attacking a moose. By including a snowshoe hare and onb the skull of a moose, I felt it encourages the viewer to look deeper ino the predator/prey relationship"
"Survival" portrays two wolves and a snowshoe hare in a struggle tc survive the harsh realities of the frozen north. The skull becomes the focal point in this sculpture's drama. A source of calcium and nourishment for rodents and some carnivores, chewing marks are evident on the brow tines and palms of the antlers. An antler palm also temporarily conceals the snowshoe hare from the sight of the two investigating wolves. The winter white pelage (fur) of the hare, although an effective camouflage, may no longer conceal its presence. The wolves' keen senses have made it clear that there is more here than meets the eye. The outcome of this bronze sculpture is up to your imagination - and the struggle for survival
