In this original illustration titled "THE EDGE OF NIGHT RECEDES" by Sandy Hokanson, a lone crow is perched among a tangled mass of branches and leaves. It's night and there are stars in the sky, but morning and the light of day swiftly approaches. This image also reflects my reaction to the turmoil happening in Minneapolis - a dark time in January & February 2026 -  but one that I hope will be resolved through the light of reason and good people helping each other. And please note that I like crows and think they are wonderful birds who also appreciate the clarity of daylight. This image is available as a note card (blank inside), a signed 12" x 12" shrink-wrapped print, a framed print (black frame) or a 16" x 16" signed metal print.

Poem on the back of note cards reads:

the edge of night recedes
as light return
shadows depart
for we seek clarity and truth always

Sandy: "For many years I painted in a realistic style using acrylics or watercolors.  Now I prefer the challenge of focusing less on every feather and more on creating a clean design of each bird." "Some of my finished works are created by making detailed drawing using permanent inks which are then scanned into my computer. Others are hand drawn directly into the computer using either a mouse or a special pen and pad.  Next I'll create a unique palette of colors to layer over the drawings.  Each color is a separate layer - which means some pieces can have up to 25 layers or more. The end result is a crisp, graphic illustration."
