CANVASBACK HEN (female) is an original wood carving by artist Sam Nottleman. Sam's meticulous attention to detail and accurate knowledge of waterfowl is clearly evident in this hand-carved Canvas Back hen Decoy. His wife Lilly does the painting, her ability to balance boldness and natural gradation are what really bring the piece to life. The Nottelmans are a well-known artistic duo, and devoted conservationists.
A large, big-headed diving duck with a gently sloping forehead and a stout neck. Its long bill meets the sloping forehead, creating a seamless look from the top of the crown to the tip of the bill. On the water it has an oval body and a short tail that gently slopes down into the water.
